How I Use Social Media to Connect and Serve My Church
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah, and faith and community are very important parts of my life. One thing that has really become part of my everyday routine is using digital media. I run the social media for my church, which has given me a different perspective on how digital media works. Because of this, I not only use social media personally, but I also think about how it can be used to reach people, share important messages, and keep communities connected.
During a typical day, the platforms I use most often are Facebook and Instagram. I use these apps both personally and for church. On my church’s social media pages, we post service announcements, Bible verses, event reminders, and information about our weekly services. Sometimes we also post encouraging messages or photos from church events. Part of my role is helping create posts and making sure people know what is happening at church during the week. I have noticed that many people check social media regularly, so posting there helps us reach more people than we might through traditional methods like flyers or word of mouth. It has also helped people who may not attend regularly still stay connected and feel welcome.
My reactions to digital media can be both positive and negative. On the positive side, I really like how digital media allows people to stay connected and informed. It can be a great way to share encouraging messages, especially through church posts that might uplift someone who sees them during the day. However, digital media can also feel overwhelming at times because there is so much content online. There are also many ads and promotions that appear while scrolling, which can sometimes make the experience feel crowded or distracting.
One thing I have noticed about marketing today is that digital media plays a huge role in how organizations reach people. Many businesses, churches, and organizations rely heavily on platforms like Facebook and Instagram to promote events, share updates, and build relationships with their audience. Instead of relying only on traditional advertising, organizations now focus on engaging content that people will interact with and share. Helping run social media for my church has shown me how important it is to post consistently and create messages that people connect with. Digital marketing today is not just about selling something—it is about building a community and staying connected with people in a meaningful way.
